What is in and out for the new year?
- I recently read an article that said white bathrooms are out and a softer palette more comforting. I can believe that as it would be more soothing, but what was shown in the article was an outdoor shower! Now in the Southwest climate for 6 months of the year an outdoor shower allows an easily accessible option after the pool. No need to sit around with a chlorine smell or children going to bed without a rinse, just shower off and relax! Perfect! However, it is not a replacement for an indoor shower that is the go to 365 days of the year!
- Another change – many fabrics with crewel embroidery both for personal and interior use. Softer, inviting fabrics because we are relaxing at home and not entertaining as much.
- I knew open shelving would not last! So much storage is lost and everything has to stay in place for the kitchen to look complete and if it stays in place, it is dusty and has to be washed before use! This was never long term!
- For a less cluttered look, eliminate hardware and use push latches.
- Black faucets are dramatic and used with other black accents make a bold statement. I would consider them for a strong contrast and a dynamic look.
- But voice activated can be handy as an option, “Siri, a cup of water please!”
- Finishes won’t be dirty as we won’t be touching them! Black or white!
- Farmhouse sinks have been around for decades. If it is the look you want, go for it! They do allow more space behind the sink for the faucet and also come in very sleek contemporary looks. Many other sink options allow for the function and look for your kitchen.
- The same with barn doors. Sometimes there is space and they make for a more interesting look. Other times just shut the door and be done with it! Simple privacy!
- Wall colors? Moody and darker tones for bedrooms and home offices can be relaxing.
Enjoy experimenting in the new year with your look – make it your own!
